This week’s muse is the impeccable Emma Watson. Not only does she slay with her personal style, as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Emma fights the good fight for gender equality. Her speech at the HeForShe kick-off spread through all avenues of social media like wildfire.

In honor of Emma showing that women, too, can wear the pants, I’m going to highlight her 2014 Golden Globes Awards look. Hands down, this is my favorite outfit Emma has ever worn. When she first walked onto the carpet, I was underwhelmed. My thoughts – how could this beautiful, trend setting female come to the Globes in a just a red, belted dress? And then Emma turned 180 and had me won over. The look is feminine. The look is masculine. The look is EVERYTHING (and more) that I would expect from Emma Watson.

The great thing about this look is it sparked the pants and dress trend. A trend that sounds ridiculous, but is surprisingly chic and powerful. Below I show you four ways to experiment with the pants/dress combo. The first is a mimic of how Emma wore it at the Globes. For me, the key to this look is having an extreme slit (or back, in Emma’s case) paired with a skinny trouser. The second look, and my favorite way to wear this trend, is with a midi or tea length dress and a pair of skinny trousers. With this style of dress, you see a hint of pant without it being overbearing. The third look gives all you mini dress haters a reason to love them again. A mini dress and a good skinny pant is another way to rock this trend. And lastly, the fourth way to wear this is for the non-extremists. If the trend scares you a little bit, wear a pair of pants with a shirt-dress or tunic. You won’t feel as silly because it just looks like you’re wearing a long shirt.
